Plastering

Plastering is the process of applying a smooth, durable layer of plaster to walls and ceilings, providing a solid base for decoration and protecting the underlying structure. It helps to create a clean, professional finish, whether in new construction or for renovations.

Skimming is a type of plastering that involves applying a thin layer of plaster over existing walls, often to repair or smooth out imperfections. It’s ideal for refreshing old walls or ceilings, giving them a modern, flawless surface without the need for full re-plastering.

Why Use Plastering and Skimming?

  • Smooth Finishes: Both plastering and skimming provide a sleek, even surface that enhances the look of your rooms.
  • Improved Durability: Plastering protects your walls from moisture and wear, making it an essential element in long-lasting home improvements.
  • Enhanced Aesthetic: Achieve a high-quality finish that creates a visually appealing backdrop for paint, wallpaper, or other decorations.
  • Cost-Effective: Skimming is a more affordable way to rejuvenate old surfaces, without the need to remove old plaster or rebuild from scratch.

Whether you’re updating your property or finishing a new build, plastering and skimming are essential services to ensure a smooth, durable, and attractive result.

Our plastering abilities range from loft conversions and single story extensions, to walls and ceilings. To achieve a strong, even surface for skimming on visible breeze blocks, a product called hard wall plaster must be applied directly to the bricks to create an even surface.

When bare breeze blocks are visible, a product called bonding plaster must be applied directly to the surfaces.

Applying a gritted solution to the bricks or blocks prior to plastering will help the plaster adhere and can also be used prior to skimming.

Plastering has a slower drying process but the surface structure is harder. Two-part filler skimming has a faster process to getting a wall or ceiling painted but results in slightly softer surfaces. Ideal for small defects in wall or ceilings.

Two-part filler skimming is a process not used by many companies. The first coat is a sticky filler that dries as hard as concrete. Once dried, a softer sand-able filler is skimmed over the surface before being carefully machine-sanded with an extraction hoover and by hand where needed.
